Am I Allowed to Kiss Her? Is #MeToo Changing Fairy Tales?

To try to answer the question if #metoo has had an affect on fairy tales, I will look at and compare tales over time. The oldest ones are tales collected from a woman storyteller in 19th century Iceland who had a repertoire of around sixty tales she told to a young boy. There is a perceptible difference in her tales according to the gender of the protagonist. I will also look at two women storytellers whose tales were recorded in the 1960s. In both cases, it is easy to discern the worldview of the storytellers in their tales and the interviews that follow. Last but not least I will look into three theatre pieces where fairy tales have been adapted or used to inspire the plot. I experienced all these pieces in the theatre’s last season and will contact the directors in question or other participants for all three cases to discuss their views and methods.
